Rekrei, originally known as “Project Mosul”, is a crowdsourced project to collect photographs of monuments, museums and artefacts damaged by natural disasters or human intervention, and to use those data to create 3D representations and help preserve our global, shared human heritage.
Joosung Kwon’s film introduces us to Matthew Vincent and Chance Coughenour, the two computer programmers whose response to the destruction of the Mosul Museum by the Islamic State group was to embark on this unique project (https://projectmosul.org/) to create digital 3D replicas of lost heritage.
