Director Giulia Binario is originally from Bastia Umbra, where The Invention of Tradition was filmed. Not only did she grow up with the subject of her film, she also studied it on an academic level, receiving a degree in Political Science in 2016 with the thesis, “The Palio de San Michele in Bastia Umbra: Analysis of a Case of Invention of a tradition”. Binario’s film education includes studies at the National School of Independent Cinema in Florence and with the well-known Italian director Marco Bellocchio. The Invention of Tradition premiered in Bastia Umbra in 2020. Its screening at the Foça Film Days opening night is its premiere showing in Turkey.
