A magnificent Buddhist House Altar has been at the Asian Art Museum in Berlin since 1936. In its search for the origins of this masterpiece, the filmmaker uncovers various aspects and rituals related to the Buddhist altars of Nepal. Through interviews with a wide variety of people – a museum curator, a craftsman's son, a Buddhist monk and through a variety of different artforms – music, dance, sculpture – the film presents interesting information about altars, crafts and rituals-beliefs in Nepal.
