With its military settlement, including underground and aboveground structures, Zerzevan Castle is one of the best-preserved Roman garrisons in the world. Here, near the Diyarbakır-Mardin border, archaeological excavations have uncovered traces of the different cultural and religious phases that shaped human cultural development. Structures dating back to both Pagan and Christian Rome reflect all the characteristics and technological advancements of their time. Furthermore, the only Temple of Mithras still standing on Rome's eastern border is located here.
