The discovery of King Asativatas's castle at Karatepe-Aslantaş in the vicinity of Adana in 1946 was the key to solving the mystery of Hyittite hieroglyphics, which had long remained indeciphearable. It was also the start of an adventure that culminated in the first restoration of a stone monument in Turkey and the establishment of a unique open-air museum - the first in the country. A Legend of the Taurus Mountains documents over half-a-century of enormous effort and devotion dedicated to Karatepe-Aslantaş, especially on the part of archaeologist Halet Çambel.
