Other Than That, I'm Fine
Other than that - not a poster

Eren Aksu’s short film Other Than That, I’m Fine begins with Aslı auditioning for a job as a voice-over artist for a Turkish audio guide to Berlin’s Pergamon Museum. In this opening scene, Aksu has presented us with two transnational movements: the recent wave of immigration from Turkey to Germany in the late 2010s, which has landed Aslı in Berlin, and the 19th century transportation of the Pergamon friezes from their ancient site in Anatolia to a newly-constructed European museum. The presence of the monumental Zeus Altar in Berlin, as well as Aslı’s encounters during the rest of the day, and the reconstruction of ‘missing’ elements at the actual site in Bergama that we witness in the final scenes of Aksu’s film, further reveal the absurdity of ‘out of placeness’.
