Riddle of the Stone Age Giants

Riddle of the Stone Age Giants is a National Geographic documentary that answers questions about Göbeklitepe, one of the oldest settlements in human history. In fact, Göpeklitepe was constructed 7,000 years before the Egyptian pyramids. Discovered in 1963 outside of the village of Örencik in the southeastern Turkish province of Şanlıurfa, years of excavations have shed light on human history in a way that has aroused the curiosity of not just archaeologists, but of the entire scientific world. Göbeklitepe was a site of worship during the Neolithic Period. With its sculptures, carvings and drawings, decorative carved stones and “T”-shaped columns, the 12,000 year old temple at Göbekitepe has been the focus of extensive scientific research since 1995. Today, it is considered the starting point of human civilization.

For anyone who wants to learn more about the mysteries of Göbeklitepe, National Geographic has brought this documentary to screens in 2019, which the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has declared “The Year of Göbeklitepe”.
