Tavşan Adası

The subject of Gerhard Lampe’s film, Tavşan Adası (‘Rabbit Island’), is a small island close to the Turkish resort town of Didim. Once connected to the Anatolian mainland, the island is the site of an important trading settlement dating all the way back to the Bronze Age. Between 2006-2014, a team of archaeologists led by Frances Bertemes of Halle University conducted systematic excavations at Tavşan Adası, Panormos, and Didyma. What they found sheds new light upon the economic and cultural role of the Carian Coast within the Minoan network of the 2nd millennium B.C.
