The River

Rather than relying on a traditional narrative, “The River” takes the form of almost-nonverbal documentary, a journey of the soul that explores the rumbling course of the Ganges River from the Himalayas in Nepal to the sacred city of Varanasi, India. Through its cinematic perspective and dynamic music score, the film illuminates the links between the river and humanity.

Directors Ines von Bonhorst and Yuri Pirondi guide the viewers into the point of view of the water, showing how our life cycle mirrors the rhythm of the planet. Von Bonhurst and Pirondi have worked together for more than a decade on projects ranging from video installation to documentaries and above all short films. Their works have been exhibited in international festivals and museums, including the V&A and the Barbican Centre in London.
