For those with a passion for photography, Dear Memories is a must-see film that presents the life and work of Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker. Hoepker is one of the world's most important photographers and his photographs are among the icons of photojournalism. Diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2017, Hoepker is making art that will become a part of the collective memory, even as he slowly begins losing his own. Dear Memories follows Hoepker's life during this difficult period, as he and his wife embark on the trip they have planned out that will take them across the USA, fulfilling one of the photographer’s last great dreams. Director Nahuel Lopez takes an interesting approach to this story of a journey on the verge of oblivion at the point where memories intersect with art.
Nahuel Lopez is a German-Chilean director, producer and writer who grew up in Hamburg and Barcelona. Lopez founded his own film production company in 2015 and completed his directorial debut, El Viaje, in 2016. Two other feature-length documentaries followed: Daniel Hope, about the famous British violinist, and Vor Dem Knall, a non-profit documentary about the 2017 G20 summit. Dear Memories has been screened before international audiences at festivals across the world, including Beldocs (Serbia), Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Estonia) and DokFest (Munich).
