Italian (Turkish subtitles)

Pablo di Neandertal takes as its starting point the work of the Italian visual artist, illustrator and essayist Pablo Echaurren. Since 2019, Echaurren’s work has featured assemblages that revolve around two apparently unrelated obsessions: Marcel Duchamp and Neanderthal man. In his uniquely entertaining experimental documentary, the multi-disciplinary artist Antonello Matarazzo, riffing on Echaurren’s work, takes up some non-inconsequential questions, like “What would have happened if the Neanderthals had prevailed over Homo Sapiens? And “What is the relationship between art and death?” Cineeuropa has described the film as “neither a documentary nor a portrait of the artist Pablo Echaurren; it’s a kaleidoscopic meditation on our past, present and future.”
