    'Homo Narrans - Site-Specific Storytelling through Documentary Photography and Film' 
    (Foça 'Tarih Merkezi') 

    Visiting artists Alexandros Zilos and Ioanna Lykou will introduce their work and invite participants to work on 'Site-Specific Storytelling' projects in Foça.

    Alexandros Zilos and Ioanna Lykou are attending Foça Film Days 2023 as Visiting Artists in partnership with the Little Island Festival and through a grant from the European Festival Fund for Emerging Artists. Alex is a professional photographer, videographer and video editor who also holds a BA in Conservation Biology from Plymouth University in the UK. He has worked on a variety of short films, documentaries and multi-media projects that examine socio-political aspects of cultural heritage in interconnection with the environmental landscape. Ioanna Lykou is a theatrologist, director and curator with an MA in Intercultural Theatre from the University of Exeter in the UK. In addition to her activities as a curator and organizer of workshops/residencies, she is a co-founder of the NPO Creative Islands & New Media and she has been the artistic director of the Little Island Festival since 2018.

    Yalçın Çiftçi: "The World on My Head: Adiyaman Village Women" 
    (Reha Midilli Kültür Merkezi, Turkish)

    Yalçın Çiftçi's talk about the significance of the headgear of the women in villages in Adiyaman will include a slide presentation followed by a discussion. 
    The women documented in his photographs also appear in Çiftçi's film 'World on My Head'.

  • 17.30 Guided Archaeology Walk

    This walking tour led by a local archaeologist will visit different points of archaeological/historical interest within Foça. The tour last about 45 minutes. Meeting point is in front of the Reha Midilli Cultural Centre. 

  • Exhibit: 'Veysel is Gone, But His Name Lives On'

    In conjunction with UNESCO and in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the death of Aşık Veysel (1894-1973), this exhibit from the collection of Nazender Süzer Gökçe and Gürsel Gökçe will be on view at the Reha Midilli Cultural Centre from 4-15 October. The cultural centre opens at 10:00 a.m.

    'Recording Oral Histories from Foça: The Sea and Sailing' 
    Kurtuluş Özgen & Meltem Ulu 
    (Foça 'Deniz Merkezi')

    First, participants will get advice about how to record oral histories for film from documentary filmmaker Kurtuluş Özgen and sociologist Meltem Ulu. Next, they will record stories about the sea and sailing from Foça residents.

    'Make a Mosaic Mural'
    Archaeologist Ertan Aksoy (Foça Municipality) and Tolga Kurut (Atölye Deneme Sanat+Ekoloji Derneği)

    Participants will work together on a mosaic made of small cubes of stone. After the workshop, the mosaic will be permanently installed in Foça near where archaeologists have discovered mosaics from Roman times.

    'Heritage Games'
    Ece Tuğ & Şebnem Yurdakul of Kentimiz İzmir Derneği
    (Foça 'Deniz Merkezi')

    A fun way to while away a Sunday afternoon. Through a series of games designed by the association Kentimiz İzmir, Ece and Şebnem introduce some features of local heritage and the importance of preservation.
